ALTEBRA - Muurclassic Geraardsbergen is a young yet fast-rising cycling race that proudly builds on the legacy of the legendary Stadsprijs Geraardsbergen. Set on and around the world-famous Muur, the race blends deep-rooted cycling tradition with a fresh, modern organisation and clear international ambitions.

From Stadsprijs to Muurclassic
First held in 1912, Stadsprijs Geraardsbergen grew into the oldest kermesse race in Belgium, with its final edition taking place in 2022. After an impressive 103 editions, the organisers chose to open a bold new chapter in 2023. With an even stronger focus on the iconic Muur and a renewed vision, Muurclassic Geraardsbergen was born.
The rise of the Muurclassic
The ambitions of the race quickly became reality. In 2024, Muurclassic was upgraded to UCI 1.1 status. The spectacular finish on the Vesten — widely regarded as one of the most beautiful finish locations in Belgium — adds to the race’s appeal.
The course is unmistakably Flemish: demanding, selective and explosive, featuring multiple ascents of the Muur, Denderoordberg and Parikeberg. Muurclassic is a race that rewards courage, strength and character.
New Name: ALTEBRA MuurClassic Geraardsbergen
Starting in 2026, the event will no longer be referred to simply as the MuurClassic, but as the ALTEBRA MuurClassic Geraardsbergen.
The fourth edition of the MuurClassic Geraardsbergen (UCI 1.1), which will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, is getting a new name. From now on, the race will be called the “Altebra MuurClassic Geraardsbergen.” Altebra — an internationally active company specializing in the full range of fire protection services, with a branch located in the Geraardsbergen district of Ophasselt — will serve as title sponsor of the MuurClassic for the next three years. This further strengthens the local connection with the event.
The Geraardsbergen cycling race is also taking another notable step forward: after 104 years as the “Stadsprijs” and 3 years as the MuurClassic during the annual fair week, the race will move to June, specifically Sunday, June 14. This marks the end of a long-standing tradition, but cycling fans will not be left empty-handed on fair Wednesday. Instead of the men’s MuurClassic, a women’s race (UCI 2.1) will be held on Wednesday, September 2. This race, also organized under the MuurClassic banner, will be part of the Lotto Belgian Cup. To complete the trio, the MuurClassic for juniors will take place on Sunday, June 7.
